The President today announced his intention to nominate Albert Peter Burleigh, of California, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counsellor, to be accorded the rank of Ambassador during his tenure of service as Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism. He would succeed Morris D. Busby.
Since 1989 Mr. Burleigh has served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the United States Department of State. Prior to this, he served at the Department of State for the Bureau of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs as: Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, 1987 - 1989; Director of the Office of Northern Gulf Affairs, 1985 - 1987; and Deputy Director of the Office of Analysis and Research, 1982 - 1985. Mr. Burleigh joined the Foreign Service in 1967.
Mr. Burleigh graduated from Colgate University (A.B., 1963). He was born March 7, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Burleigh resides in Washington, DC.
