This video cassette contains footage of the arrival ceremony for the State Visit of President Lech Walesa of Poland. President and Mrs. Bush, and President and Mrs. Walesa, arrive on the South Lawn. After listening to the national anthems of Poland and of the United States, the two presidents review the troops. The fife and drum corps performs. President George Bush makes remarks, noting that Walesa had become the first democratically-elected president of Poland. President George Bush speaks in support of the success of free democracy in Poland and throughout Eastern Europe. He comments on the American Business Initiative and the Trade Enhancement Initiative. He remarks on Polish freedom fighters, then concludes his remarks. President Walesa remarks on building a system of freedom; Poland's market economy; and the peak of the U.S.-Poland relationship attained during the Gulf crisis. He compliments President George Bush on being a "sincere friend to Poland", and states in English, "God bless you, Mr. President, and God bless America." President and Mrs. Bush, and President and Mrs. Walesa, depart.
