This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

Subject Files on National Security Council
These records consist of memoranda, correspondence, press releases, talking points, and printed material. Memoranda include standard inter-staff memos on approved presidential activity, scheduling, and meetings. Memos also include routine legislative referral memos concerning proposed bills, discussion drafts, and legislation daily reports. Correspondence includes requests for meetings or interviews and invitations for George Bush or Brent Scowcroft to attend various events or functions, as well as the standard White House staff response letters. Also included are routine congratulatory letters to George Bush upon his presidential inauguration. Press releases contain announcement of presidential appointments. Talking points consist of suggested remarks for both George Bush and Brent Scowcroft for speaking engagements at such events as the National Young Leaders Conference and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Washington Conference. Printed material consist of a Rand Corporation publication on managing US-Soviet relations, a Harvard Business School working paper on the defense acquisition process, and the 1988 Arms Control Disarmament Agency Annual Report to Congress.
