This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

Subject Files on United Nations Secretariat
This series contains cover sheets which route other documents as well as correspondence between White House staff, foreign heads of state, representatives from the United Nations Secretariat, the Department of State, state and local government officials, special interest groups, and citizens. The correspondence consists of letters urging the President to support the various United Nations organizations and initiatives, including the U.N. Transition Assistance Group in Namibia, international women's rights, foreign relief/ aid, and the U.N. World Summit for Children. Congressional correspondence pertains primarily to recommendations and words of support for candidates to serve as U.S. representatives/ delegates to the United Nations. Also included is correspondence from heads of state requesting support for various candidates to serve as U.N. Secretary General. The Report to Congress on Voting Practices in the United Nations is an annual report which examines votes taken within the U.N. over the previous year and analyses them based upon a country-by-country and regional basis.
