This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

This series contains information on global climate changes, the global environment, global environmental research and policy, conservation and preservation of resources and the environment, energy and the environment, wildlife protection, environmental education, energy conservation, water allocation. Also included are public mail and letters from school children urging the President to protect the environment, suggestions and reports from non-government organizations, weekly reports from the Land and Natural Resources/Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Justice Department, and periodic updates from within the Administration on the "Bush Environmental Record."
