This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

Subject Files on Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission

This series contains biographies, correspondence, forms, and press releases. The document deal primarily with the nominations of commission members. There are also letters from local, state, and federal representatives concerning the Commission's 1991 report, which is also included. The biographies and some of the forms offer information concerning the Commission's members. The rest of the forms serve as transmittals of correspondence.
