This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

This series contains information about programs, reports and various other information on the handicapped such as: hearing impaired and blind; federal disabilities programs; Talking Books Program; National Commission on Education for the Deaf; Americans with Disabilities Act; Helen Keller National Center for Deaf - Blind Youths and Adults; Temporary Handicapped Children's Child Care and Crisis Nurseries Act - Respire Program; Project ORBIS - Flying Eye Hospital; Center for the Visually Impaired; Deaf Awareness Week; spinal muscular atrophy; lip reading or speechwriting; National Multiple Sclerosis Society of 1988 Annual Report; handicapped and disabled persons - "Dwarf Community;†and several reports from MDA - To Assure the Free Appropriate Public Education of all Handicapped Children,1988-90; Education for Hearing Impaired; Central Florida Lions Eye and Tissue Bank; retinal diseases, and judicial duties of a blind person.
