In 1976, during the Ford Administration, George Bush became the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Bush took on the tremendous task of improving the image of the Agency and curbing Agency excesses, while still being able to provide the President's office with essential intelligence data. The decisions he made during this time helped restore the image of the CIA and maintain the essential balance of power during the Cold War.
