The materials in FOIA 2012-2216-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. At this time the majority of the records in this request are security classified and have been closed under the restrictions of the Freedom of Information Act. The open records consist of memoranda, lists, papers, press releases, and printed material maintained by individual staff members and offices. The 2012-2216-F 2 memoranda contain standard memos regarding requests for appointments, proposed schedules, and meetings with Japanese officials. Lists include dinner guest list and meeting participants lists. Included in the material is a research paper on the topic of Japanese foreign aid by the Director of the Kyoto Center for Japanese Studies. Press releases relate to the appointment of Japan's Ambassador to the U.S. and transcript of the Ambassador's speech to the Japan-America Society. Printed material includes news articles regarding U.S.-Japan relations, as well as the Department of State's Office of Public Communications July 1980 edition of Background Notes publication on Japan.
