The materials in FOIA 2005-0398-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. 2005-0398-F 2 FOIA 2005-0398-F contains materials from the National Security Council (NSC) regarding the Abu Nidal Organization (ANO), a terrorist group originally affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The ANO was responsible for the 1986 attempted hijacking of Pan Am 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, as well as many other violent attacks on civilian populations in Europe during the 1970s and 1980s. The files of Carolyn Stettner, a director in International Programs for the NSC, consist of articles, cables, and memoranda regarding ANO activities during 1987-1989 and papers detailing facts about the organization as known in the late 1980s. It should be noted that over half the records contained in this request remain national security classified and are thus not available at this time. All restricted documents have been described on withdrawal sheets placed in the original folders. Read less
