The materials in FOIA 2004-2121-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents related to the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). FOIA 2004-2121-F contains correspondence, legal documents, press releases, printed material, reports, and testimony before Congress. The correspondence includes letters to the chairman of the 2004-2121-F 2 Subcommittee on Crime and Criminal Justice from the White House and the Department of Justice responding to a request for information related to the BCCI investigation, a letter to White House Counsel from a private attorney representing a defendant in the BCCI matter, and internal White House memoranda related to the BCCI indictment in New York. Legal documents consist of a transcript of the hearings on the BCCI Affair before the Senate Subcommittee on Terrorism, Narcotics and International Operations; summaries of charges brought against BCCI by the Federal Reserve; and the State of New York's indictment against BCCI. Testimonies by various government officials before the Senate Subcommittee are also included. Reports from the House Subcommittee on Crime and Criminal Justice and the House Banking Committee discuss investigations into federal law enforcement's handing of the allegations against BCCI and BCCI's activities in the US, respectively. The bulk of the records in this collection are printed material. Newspaper clippings discuss Senate and DOJ investigations into BCCI activities, allegations of BCCI connections to illegal activities around the world, and the affects of the BBCI scandal in various regions. Also included are BCCI-related clippings from 1977-89, as well as copies of published court cases and criminal/penal laws, that were collected for background research. Press releases from the DOJ and the Federal Reserve relate to criminal proceedings against BCCI. Read less
