The records relating to FOIA 2004-0733-F contain materials from various individuals, organizations, government agencies, and White House offices. These materials address many individuals, issues, and events. The Quayle Vice Presidential Staff and Office Files contain background notes, a biography, briefing papers, cables, cover sheets, diagrams, fact sheets, graphs, letters, lists, manifests, memo, photographs, reports, schedules, speech cards, and trip booklets. The bulk of this material is related to Vice President Quayle's visit to Venezuela, Barbados, Chile, Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil in March of 1992. During this visit, Vice President Quayle attended the inauguration ceremonies for President Collor of Brazil and President Aylwin of Chile. The background notes are Department of State profiles of countries such as Paraguay and Chile that Vice President Quayle visited in March of 1990. The biography is of Ambassador to Chile Charles A. Gillespie (1935 - 2008). The briefing papers consist of economic background and profiles of countries to be visited by Vice President Quayle during his visit to Latin America. The cables consist of materials related to announcements of travel; proposed and fixed schedules; press conference, speech, and toast transcripts; invitations, and travel authorizations. The cover sheets are of a general nature and accompany several of the memoranda. The diagrams show various seating charts for meetings and inaugural ceremonies. The fact sheets relate to the countries visited by Vice President Quayle and are composed of cultural and economic details. Graphs included in these documents relate directly to the economic fact sheets and describe how certain economic indicators have changed over time. The letters in this request consist almost completely of thank you messages from Vice President Quayle to heads of state and various members of embassies and hotels showing appreciation for gifts and work contributed to his visit to Latin America. The lists consist of individuals attending inaugural ceremonies, meetings, and dinners, while the manifests show those aboard Air Force Two and in the vice presidential motorcade. Memoranda are made up of information and planning correspondence for the Latin America trip. Photographs are black and white and are from Vice President Quayle's visit to Chile and his meeting with the Argentine Chamber of Commerce. Reports describe the planning for events scheduled for Mr. and Mrs. Quayle. The numerous schedules, proposed and final, map out the daily arrangements for the multitude of events attended by Mr. and Mrs. Quayle and their delegation during their Latin America trip. The speech cards consist of arrival and departure statements and dinner remarks made by Vice President Quayle during his trip. Finally, the trip booklets are very descriptive minute-by- minute breakdowns of the South America trip and all the events attended by the Vice President and his delegation. Read less
