Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. The bulk of this FOIA covers the time period from the nomination of Judge Thomas in July 1991 to the confirmation of Thomas as an Associate 1998-0207-F 2 Justice of the Supreme Court in October 1991. The materials within this FOIA include newspaper clippings; review and analysis of decisions of Clarence Thomas while he served on the U.S. Court of Appeals and as chairman of the EEOC; memoranda; correspondence; transcripts of Senate testimony; speeches of Clarence Thomas between 1981 and 1989; and biographical information on Clarence Thomas. In addition, within the Bush Presidential Staff and Office Files there are two very large and noteworthy collections of material dealing with the confirmation process. The first consists of 184 video tapes of the confirmation hearings between 9/10/91 and 10/16/91. The second is a large collection of documents requested by the Senate Judiciary Committee in the course of their investigation into Clarence Thomas' background. Read less
