FOIA 2023-0705-F contains materials from the National Security Council and Department of the Treasury, each a member of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), an interagency committee tasked with the oversight of certain transactions by foreigners to ascertain the effect of such transactions in respect to U.S. national security. The Staff and Office Files contain memoranda, reports, and correspondence pertaining to the acquisition of U.S. firms by foreign interests (General Ceramics/Tokuyama, Monsanto-Huels, Sematech, etc.) Included are discussions among Bush administration officials and Congress related to the proposed acquisitions and their potential effects on national security as well as correspondence from the businesses in question advocating their positions.
