FOIA 2016-2424-F contains materials related to the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 (FHAA) and earlier, but unpassed, versions of the act discussed during the Bush vice presidency. The FHAA amends the Civil Rights Act of 1968 to include persons with a disability and families with children from discrimination in housing sales, rentals, or financing and established an administrative enforcement mechanism to respond to discrimination violations. Materials include records from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) whose mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all . During the Bush vice presidency, Samuel Pierce was the Secretary of HUD. The White House Office of Records Management (WHORM) Alphabetical Files contain correspondence between HUD Secretary Samuel Pierce and Vice President Bush and his staff regarding issues and media coverage of housing matters. The WHORM Subject File category contains correspondence, an invitation, and talking points for an April 1, 1985 HUD sponsored event asking Vice President Bush to be the featured speaker. The Staff and Office Files contain correspondence, memoranda, press releases, reports, an agenda, a transcript, biographical profiles, and summaries related to the FHAA, Secretary Samuel Pierce, housing related administration accomplishments, and affordable housing construction.
