The materials in FOIA 1998-0411-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents 1998-0411-F 1 responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA 1998-0411-F contains material pertaining to Geraldine Ferraro, former congresswoman from New York and 1984 vice presidential nominee. Other than a small amount of routine correspondence from Ferraro concerning legislative matters, the majority of material concerns the 1984 presidential and vice presidential elections. This includes thousands of pages of mail received by Vice President George Bush concerning his debate with Ferraro in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 11, 1984. These letters refer to the debate as well as to statements made by Barbara Bush, George Bush, and Bush's Press Secretary Peter Teeley about Ferraro. Because this correspondence concerns activities outside the statutory or ceremonial duties of the vice president, it has been determined that all incoming and outgoing letters on these subjects are personal rather than vice presidential records and are not available for review at this time. The majority of material that remains open for research includes tax returns and financial disclosure forms for Ferraro and her husband, John Zaccaro, and Walter and Joan Mondale. Read less
