The materials in FOIA 2004-1689-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents 2004-1689-F 2 relating to contacts between Vice President George Bush and the Government of Indonesia or its representatives. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA 2004-1689-F contains materials from agencies and individuals including the Office of the Vice President, the Department of State, the Central Intelligence Agency, and Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger. The Staff and Office Files contain correspondence, memoranda, and cables maintained by Donald P. Gregg, Assistant to the Vice President for National Security Affairs. The Foreign Travel Files subseries consists of two discrete bodies of records regarding Vice President Bush's trip to the Far East, South Asia, and Oman in May, 1984. A series of cables documents the administrative details and provides the historical context of the trip. Another set of files contain schedules, background papers, biographical sketches, talking points, and public statements compiled to assist Vice President Bush in preparing for his trip to Japan, Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Oman. The material on the Pakistan portion of the trip also includes information on the Soviet war with Afghanistan and the Afghan refugee situation. The Meetings with Foreigners Files contain memoranda and appointment requests for Vice President Bush to meet with Indonesian State Minister B. J. Habibe and Ambassador Soesilo Soedarman on various occasions from 1986 to 1988. It should be noted that the majority of the substantive material contained in FOIA 2004-1689-F remains restricted National Security Classified. Read less
