The materials in FOIA 2005-0336-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA 2005-0336-F contains cover sheets, correspondence, charters, congressional bills, executive orders, meeting agendas, minutes, presidential remarks, press releases, printed material, proposals, reports, and speeches. These materials consist of various types of White House or agency cover sheets, which route other correspondence, and correspondence between White House staff, OSTP and PCAST staff, members of Congress, and citizens related to science and technology topics such as critical technologies, commercialization of technology, economic competitiveness, global change research (particularly the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development) , international science and technology cooperation, math and science education, science and technology research, and technology transfer. The administrative documents relate to the science and technology research budgets, the establishment of OSTP and the President's Council of Advisors for Science and Technology (PCAST), nomination and confirmation of OSTP and PCAST members, staff appointments and other personnel matters, awards, meetings, and the charters for OSTP, PCAST, and related subcommittees and working groups. Also included are congressional bills, testimony to Congress by OSTP members, presidential remarks, and executive orders related to important science and technology issues such as American Technology Preeminence, US Competitiveness, critical technologies, global climate change, high performance computing superconductivity, and the President's strategy for improving math and science education. The enclosed reports are from various committees, such as the National Critical Technologies Panel and the Committee on International Science, Engineering and Technology (CISET), and relate to the impact of science and technology on American Diplomacy, National Security, and the American Standard of living, among other topics. Printed materials, press releases, and speeches by D. Allan Bromley and other OSTP and PCAST members are included which deal with President Bush's environment and education initiatives, and science and technology accomplishments of the Bush Administration. A significant amount of material responsive to this FOIA is contained in the files of D. Allan Bromley (Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and Director of the OSTP), including records related to other councils and organizations in which Bromley participated, such as the Federal Coordinating Council for Science, Engineering, and Technology (FCCSET), the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), the Domestic Policy Council (DPC), and the Carnegie Group. The files of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, including the files of D. Allan Bromley, Colonel John O'Neil (Senior Policy Analyst), and Michelle Van Cleave (General Counsel and Assistant Director for National Security Affairs), are included in their entirety. It should be noted that many of the documents listed here are security classified and have been closed under the restrictions of the Freedom of Information Act. Read less
