FOIA 2004-0722-F contains materials related to U.S.-Nicaragua relations from 1980 to 1988. Included are documents regarding policy towards the Sandinista government, continued financial support of the Nicaraguan contras, immigration policy towards Nicaraguan exiles, copies of various press reports, letters 2004-0728-F 2 from private citizens of both the United States and Nicaragua supporting President Reagan and the Vice President, offering their assistance, or arguing against U.S. policy in Central America. Of particular note are the numerous U.S. government publications released by the Department of State or Department of Defense in an effort to educate the public and the media as to the conditions in Nicaragua. A significant amount of material responsive to this FOIA is contained in the files of the Office of National Security Affairs.
