One proposal suggests that the Sequoia be made available to transport visiting dignitaries to and from Ellis Island. Another suggests that the Government of Kuwait be tasked with underwriting the associated costs that would be encountered in the process of restoring and returning the Sequoia to Presidential service. A 1989 letter from a former Master of the Sequoia requests that President Bush confiscate the yacht and enlist it in the Thousand Points of Light Initiative, and then to additionally prosecute those who were responsible for a supposed fraudulent trust that was created and executed in the name of restoring and covering the future operating costs of the Sequoia. There are also many printed Lexus Nexus stories related to USS Sequoia news and its status, as well as a variety of photocopied newspaper clippings that were provided in constituent effort to provide more comprehensive detail and information while lobbying for the yacht to be returned to U.S. government ownership or for its other potential public uses. Additionally, an invitation from Senator Alan Simpson for Vice President and Mrs. Bush to attend the 1986 Fourth of July celebration cruise through New York Harbor aboard the Sequoia (to which Vice President Bush regretted) is present. There is also a July 1986 letter from Mrs. Peggy Pace to Mrs. Bush requesting if then Vice President Bush could assist her in making the Sequoia privately available to her family for the upcoming celebration of her husband, Frank Pace's, 75th birthday. Finally, there is the scheduling of an event for then Vice President Bush and Mrs. Bush to attend and host a cocktail dinner party aboard the Sequoia on May 20, 1987 honoring Yang Shangkun, Vice Chairman, Central Military Committee of the People's Republic of China.
