This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

This series contains information and research materials on alternative fuels, fossil energy, geothermal energy, recycling, cold fusion, the use of aerosols, ozone, the effects of chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), global climate change and global warming, the Superconducting Super Collider, human fetal tissue research, fetal cell transplants, and biomass/MSW conversion to renewable energy. It also contains reports including The Farm Animal and Research Facilities Protection Act of 1989, Electromagnetic Fields Research and Information Dissemination, Our Changing Planet: The FY 1991 U.S. Global Change Research Program, and The President’s Council on Competitiveness: Report and National Biotechnology Policy.
