This collection consists of 58 series of subject files based on 58 broad subject classifications developed by the Office of Records Management during the Kennedy Administration to facilitate the filing and retrieval of White House records. These records pertain to the functions and operations of the White House, Federal Government, foreign and other governments. These records also contain correspondence from private companies or individuals.

Subject Files on Children Relating to Welfare Services, Adoption and Abuse
This series contains correspondence, fact sheets, proposed testimony, speech drafts, enrolled bills, reports, and memoranda primarily concerning the ABC Bill (Act for Better Child Care), the improvement of day care, the Child Care Development and Improvement Act, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, and Family Tax Credits. This category contains a lesser amount of information on infant mortality, child custody, catastrophic health care, missing children, children with disabilities, adoption, infant nutrition, international adoption, children and television, child support, youth employment, and Head Start. Of special note is correspondence between the White House and the Family Research Council, Heritage Foundation, and Eagle Forum concerning President Bush's agenda for children.
