This series contains materials pertaining to international trade. There is information on the following topics: tariff and quotas or other restrictions on imports into the United States and its possessions; exports and export licenses from the United States; the Antidumping Act; reciprocal trade agreements.

This series contains correspondence from Congress, constituents, civic groups, and religious groups concerning trade sanctions against Japan, Cambodia, South Africa, the Soviet Union, Iraq, China, and Haiti. These materials include letters, executive orders, memoranda, briefing papers, and assorted background material concerning chemical weapons, trade, social justice, violence, and nuclear nonproliferation issues.

This series contains records related to trade agreements made by the United States with other countries. This category contains correspondence from legislators, trade groups, industry groups, and representatives from other countries. Also in this category are decision memoranda and other correspondence from members of the Bush Administration. Some of the issues found in this category include the debate over Most Favored Nation (MFN) status for the People's Republic of China, trade agreements with the Soviet Union, the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), and the negotiations among the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

This series contains records related to various trade fairs and missions in other countries. This category contains correspondence from business and industry groups, legislators, the Deputy United State Trade Representative, various trade mission representatives, representatives of other countries and George Bush and select members of his Administration. Some of the issues found in this category deal with the Poznan International Trade Fair, Seville World Expo 1992, U.S. Trade Mission to Greece, NAFTA suggestions, and requests for governmental or business participation in various projects.

This series contains information pertaining to trips (planned or made) by the president. Included in these materials are documents related to trip plans; stops and visits; trip schedules; trip itineraries; traveling companions; press coverage; and photographic coverage of the trip. The folders are arranged chronologically. In addition to the materials listed above, the trip folders contain letters, draft letters, memoranda, travel justifications, advance forms, invitations, speeches, and printed materials. Many of the letters are routine thank you notes drafted in the Presidential Correspondence Unit and sent to individuals who participated in or helped organize and coordinate a presidential visit. Copies of letters sent by President Bush to local officials and private citizens whom he met on his travels are also included, as well as letters sent by Mrs. Bush when she accompanied the president. Some letters are from the President's friends who write wishing him good luck before or congratulating him after a trip. White House staff memoranda primarily discuss routine matters such as accommodations, transportation, baggage calls, associated with travel and occasionally more substantive issues concerning attendance at particular events. Travel justifications include staff comments regarding proposed trips. Each folder usually contains copies of advance forms which include the names and addresses of contacts used by White House staff when planning and coordinating a presidential trip. The forms also note the type of thank you note sent to each contact. Some trip folders include copies of comments made by the president at an event as well as background information about the city or state visited by the president.

This series contains information on energy efficiency as a means of energy security, energy conservation/efficiency, alternative fuels, lowincome home energy assistance program, reconciling energy and the environment, suggestions on how to mitigate energy effects of Persian Gulf Crisis in 1990; this category also contains a large volume of information on the National Energy Strategy.

This series contains information on: telecommunications trade and market, telecommunications access, legislation pertaining to telecommunications, telecommunication equipment and research, alarm and security industry, cable TV regulation, radar detectors, and telecommunications deregulation.

This series contains information on children's television programming and content, broadcasting legislation, High Definition Television (HDTV), the Fairness Doctrine and cable TV regulations.

This series contains information on cable television. Contrary to its name, this category contains no information on telegraphs or communication cables.

This series contains information on water quality, water supply/shortages, water service contracts and water levels in reservoirs, lakes and rivers.

This series contains letters from various groups, organizations, and individuals seeking to maintain or increase funding for the VA, seek funding for specific projects, seek redress for complaints against the VA or specific VA facilities, protest some planned action by the VA, or to seek correction of certificates issued by the VA. In this category, the most voluminous group of letters are those concerning funding for medical facilities and medical procedures. Also included are statements by the VA and other Administration agencies pertaining to legislation related to the VA.

This series contains information relating to veterans' pensions, benefits to specific veterans' groups, and signing statements and departmental drafts for various bills related to the VA.

This series contains material related to educational programs for veterans. This includes a signing statement and departmental drafts for the Montgomery G.I. Bill and letters related to the efforts to have veterans' education benefits clarified and/or extended.

This series contains information about funding for the VA medical facilities, construction of new the VA medical facilities, closure of certain the VA medical facilities, complaints against and praise for the VA medical facilities and personnel, and protests against non-veterans using the VA medical facilities. This category also contains letters, reports, and telegrams to President and Mrs. Bush concerning international welfare, rural poverty, corporate giving, children’s rights, drug and alcohol abuse, special education, and federal waivers of state welfare requirements.

This category also includes correspondence, enrolled bills, fact sheets, proposed testimony, reports, and memoranda concerning teen pregnancy, the judiciary and abortion, strengthening families, rape and incest, federal funding of abortions, the Washington D.C. appropriations bill, RU 486, parental notification for abortions, the Title X Pregnancy Counseling Act, the Family Unity and Employment Opportunity Immigration Act of 1990, the Wichita, Kansas abortion clinic siege, population control, and the Family Planning Amendments Act of 1992.

This series contains letters and memoranda primarily regarding the refurbishing of the Oval Office. Information in the materials details fundraising efforts for the remodeling of the President's office, as well as efforts to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the laying of the White House cornerstone. Many materials in this category were generated by the White House curator and the White House Historical Association.

The materials discuss the efficiency of the White House Correspondence Unit and provide general information about the operation of the correspondence unit.

This series contains weekly, biweekly, quarterly, and annual mail reports. These reports were generated by Shirley K. Green, Special Assistant to the President for Presidential Messages and Correspondence, and were regularly forwarded to the President for information purposes. The reports contain total amounts of correspondence received during any given period, the amount processed, and the general issues discussed in the correspondence. The issues discussed are also broken down by pros and cons based on the President's policies. This category also includes weekly and biweekly telephone reports which outline the number of calls made to the White House, as well as the general topics discussed in each call. Most of these reports were reviewed and initialed by the President.
