Selected Records on Austen H. Furse III

Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. 2008-1147-F 2 FOIA 2008-1147-F contains selected materials regarding and created by Austen H. Furse III. Furse worked on the 1988 Bush/Quayle campaign and served the George H. W. Bush Administration first as Deputy Director, and later as Director, of Policy Planning in the White House Office of Policy Development. The Bush Presidential Staff and Office Files contain drafts, forms, lists, memoranda, press releases, and speeches. A large portion of this request consists of printed copies of files stored on 3-1/2" floppy disks. These files contained memoranda regarding domestic policy ideas about education and other issues, speech drafts and final copies, lists of contacts, and excerpts from press releases. The documents were printed as at this time there is not a system in place for researchers to view them electronically. The Bush Vice Presidential Staff and Office Files contain articles, a book, lists, memoranda, papers, press releases, reports, schedules, and statements. These resources were used as research materials during the 1988 campaign. Included were a photocopy of part of the book Betrayal: Michael Dukakis and the Battle to Save Historic Prowse Farm by Harvey B. Robbins, a paper prepared by the White House Office of Public Affairs titled "The Reagan Record on Science and Technology", a report of electric utility industry legislative issues prepared by the Edison Electric Institute, and similar items.
