Lines with Power and Purpose: Editorial Cartoons

Rotating Exhibits
Temporary
October 07, 2019 - January 05, 2020
These deceptively simple drawings frame the publics’ understanding of early-to-mid twentieth-century world events and trends ranging from the two World Wars, the Great Depression, public discontent with the US government, presidential elections, daily battles regarding work-related rejection, nostalgia for homespun neighborhood charm in the Midwest, and more. Along the way, these cartoons served a dualistic intention: to provide welcomed comic relief as well as shape opinion.

Spies, Traitors, Saboteurs: Fear and Freedom in America

Rotating Exhibits
Temporary
February 19, 2019 - May 20, 2019
From the Revolutionary War to the War on Terror, "Spies, Traitors, Saboteurs: Fear and Freedom in America" provides unprecedented perspective into terror on American soil. The exhibition uncovers the forgotten stories of domestic terrorists and foreign agents, militant radicals and saboteurs, who have threatened America's sense of security over the past 200 years. It also explores the questions: How do we identify who the enemy is? And how do we keep the country safe without compromising the civil liberties upon which it was founded?

Mapping Texas: From Frontier to the Lone Star State

Rotating Exhibits
Temporary
April 20, 2018 - January 02, 2019
Through a series of 26 maps and documents, split into seven different subjects, museum visitors can observe the evolution of the state and the emergence of the Alamo and the San Antonio missions. Some of the maps presented in this exhibit include Martin Waldseemüller's 1513 Tabula Terre Nove, one of the earliest maps of the Americas; and Alexander Von Humboldt's 1809 General Map of the Kingdom of New Spain, which was highly influential in the mapping of Texas and the American West. Also on display are oversized maps of Texas including a copy of Stephen F. Austin's 1837 Connected Map of Austin's Colony; a one-of-a-kind manuscript map documenting the boundary between the U.S. and the Republic of Texas, and many more. The selection of maps are reproductions from the Texas General Land Office.
