The materials in FOIA 2018-1433-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA 2018-1433-F contains materials related to the Flying Tiger Association, particularly the history and resulting Flying Tigers-American Volunteer Group reunions. The Flying Tigers-American Volunteer Group involved those first Americans who saw action against the Japanese after the United States entered World War II. They became known for their fearlessness in air battles and victories in the face of a formidable enemy. The Flying Tigers Association is composed of honorably discharged members of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) Flying Tigers and their families, the families of AVG who died during AVG service, and Friends of the AVG who support and keep the AVG legacy alive. Their stated mission is to preserve, respect, inform, educate, and keep alive the accurate history of the AVG. The Flying Tiger Association held its first reunion of the Flying Tigers-American Volunteer Group in 1952 in Hollywood, California and celebrated its Golden Anniversary in 1992 at San Antonio, Texas during the Bush administration. The WHORM Subject File categories contain tracking sheets, letters between President Bush and John Rossi (President of the Flying Tiger Association) regarding a presidential statement for the 1989 Flying Tigers-American Volunteer Group reunion, and between President Bush and Edward Cheviot regarding a presidential statement for their Golden Anniversary reunion in 1992. There is also a video "Call to Glory" regarding the Flying Tigers, presidential statements (drafts and final), a presidential message telegram from President Ronald Reagan in 1987, memos regarding the 1989 reunion, forms for Requests for Clearance for Presidential Messages and drafts of presidential messages, a note regarding the Flying Tigers, and printed material "Flying Tigers - A Brief History." Read less
