The day began with the President's national security and intelligence briefings. Following meetings with senior advisors, including Vice President J. Danforth Quayle, Chief of Staff John Sununu, and Charles G. "Greg" Petersmeyer, the President signed the 1991 "Economic Report of the President" and participated in a photo opportunity in the Oval Office. Meetings consumed the afternoon and regard Operation Desert Storm.

The President participated in his morning national security and intelligence briefings and then was briefed on the Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1991. Later in the morning, he taped several public service messages. Before lunch, he met with his domestic policy staff including Michael J. Boskin and Roger B. Porter. In the afternoon, President Bush met with senior advisors regarding Operation Desert Storm.

The President held a conference call with the Amir of Kuwait, met with the Commissioner of Major League Baseball Fay Vincent, and talked with his senior advisors including John Sununu, Andrew H. Card, Jr., and J. Danforth Quayle. In the afternoon, he spoke with the Sultan of the United Arab Emirates and the Sultan of Oman.

In the morning, the President received his national security and intelligence briefings. He then met with members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In the late morning, the President traveled aboard Air Force One to Massachusetts and then spoke to employees of the Raytheon Plant, makers of the Patriot Missile. He then participated in a Patriot Missile simulation. From there, the President traveled to Kennebunkport, Maine.

In the morning at Walkers's Point, the President telephoned Richard B. Cheney and James A. Baker, III. In the afternoon, the President talked on a conference call with Helmut Kohl, Chancellor of Germany and again with Secretary of State Baker. Later in the day, he flew back to Washington D.C., where he met with Chief of Staff John Sununu and with his defense advisors about Operation Desert Storm.

Back at the White House after a weekend at Kennebunkport, the President met with his national security and intelligence advisors. He then met with his senior advisors to discuss Operation Desert Storm. Before lunch, he participated in a photo opportunity with members of the American Association of Engineering Societies. He also held a meeting with his domestic policy staff including Roger B. Porter and Lamar Alexander, Secretary of Education. Following lunch, the President spoke on a conference call with Francois Mitterand, President of France and met with Richard G. Darman, Director of the Office of Management and Budget. He then met with the Secretary of the Interior Manuel Lujan, Jr., to discuss the opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The President began his day with a conference call with Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt. He then received his morning national security and intelligence briefings. After meetings with members of his senior staff, the President and First Lady greeted Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Prior to lunch, the President met to discuss the National Energy Strategy with members of the Congressional Energy Committee. After lunch the President met with the Intelligence Oversight Board and with baseball player Nolan Ryan. That evening, the President and Mrs. Bush hosted a state dinner for Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

He participated in a photo opportunity with the National Easter Seal Child, with the winner of the Presidential Distinguished Rank Award, and with members of the American Legion Auxiliary. After lunch, the President signed the National Parents and Teachers Association Week proclamation, and then participated in a conference
call with Francois Mitterand, President of France. Late in the afternoon, the President talked by telephone with Mikhail S. Gorbachev, President of the USSR.

Later in the morning, the President spoke with Francois Mitterand, President of France and met with a delegation from Turkey. He spoke by conference call with Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt, and then released a statement to the press regarding Operation Desert Storm. After swearing in Lynn Martin as Secretary of Labor, the President spoke on a conference call with Mikhail Gorbachev. He also held a meeting with Richard B. Cheney and Colin L. Powell to discuss Operation Desert Storm.

Schuller and participated in a photo opportunity with the Patriots Foundation Board. Later, the President met with Vice President J. Danforth Quayle and Colin L. Powell to discuss Operation Desert Storm. In the afternoon, the President again met with his senior national security and defense advisors to discuss Operation Desert Storm.

With the Persian Gulf War nearing an end, the President continued to speak daily with heads of state around the world. He began this day with a conversation by telephone with Vaclav Havel, President of Czechoslovakia. He then had his morning national security and intelligence briefings and met with senior advisors to discuss Operation Desert Storm. At 9:48 a.m., the President addressed the nation to announce Iraq's withdrawal from Kuwait. Following these remarks, members of Congress were briefed by the President on fast-track authority. Prior to lunch, he met with Cesar Gaviria Trujillo, President of Columbia. The afternoon consisted of additional meetings on Operation Desert Storm with Colin L. Powell and Richard B. Cheney in attendence.

The President began his day by speaking with members of Congress, including Senator Alan K. Simpson. He then held his morning national security and intelligence briefings. The President met with his domestic policy staff prior to motoring to the J. W. Marriott Hotel where he addressed the American Society of Association Executives and Neighborhood Volunteer Organizations. After lunch, the President met with British Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd, and held a meeting on Operation Desert Storm with his senior staff. At 9:02 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, the President addressed the nation about the suspension of offensive combat operations in the Persian Gulf.
