The materials in FOIA 2000-1333-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA 2000-1333-F contains information on the Munich Economic Summit of 1992. The annual gathering of leaders from the seven industrialized nations (United States, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, United Kingdom, and Italy) is also known as the G-7 summit. The particular gathering in 1992 was formally known as the 18th Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations and occurred from July 6, 1992 to July 8, 2000-1333-F 2 1992. The summits occur on an annual basis during the summer and are hosted by member nations on a rotating basis. During the administration of President Bush, he attended economic summits in Paris, France (1989), Houston, United States (1990), London, United Kingdom (1991), and Munich, Germany (1992). Although not officially a member of the G-7, Russia was unofficially included in the Munich Summit. President Boris Yeltsin met with summit participants during a special session at the end of the conference. White House Office of Records Management (WHORM) Subject File categories contains correspondence; memoranda; news clippings; and brochures from the general public, Congress, and the Bush administration. The Staff and Office Files contain correspondence, memoranda, and publications maintained by individual staff members and offices. Most of this FOIA consists of National Security Council (NSC) materials used to create briefings and background papers for the president to reference during general sessions on the world economy, nuclear safety, the environment, world political affairs, Russia/former Soviet Union, developing countries, Central and Eastern Europe, and during bilateral meetings with summit participants. Specific briefing materials include background memos for general sessions, talking points for general sessions, bilateral briefing papers, points-to-be-made during bilateral meetings, and biographies of key leaders from each delegation including Russia. Other NSC materials include background memoranda and cables used to construct the event papers described above. Please note that although NSC materials comprise more than two thirds of the information contained in this request (about 2,000 of the 3,600 total pages), most of this material is closed under the national security exemption in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Other materials in this FOIA consist of very low level memoranda, planning documents, and schedules provided to the press and guests to prepare for the President's European Trip or for specific summit events such as the bilateral working dinner with French President Francois Mitterrand.
