Records on Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Minimum Wage

Because this FOIA collection contains all material related to the FLSA (not just material related to the minimum wage), there are documents relating to the application of FLSA exemptions for overtime 2001-1450-F 2 pay within state governments and the private sector. However, the majority of records in this FOIA collection relate to the 1989 Amendments to the FLSA, which raised the minimum wage. This collection documents: the formation of the Bush Administration's position on the issue of raising the minimum wage, the progress of the original bill through the House of Representatives, and the final compromise resolution passed by Congress and signed by President Bush. The few vice presidential records in the collection contain information about Vice President Bush's position on the minimum wage and the efforts, led by Senator William Cohen, to amend the FLSA to allow voluntary child labor for local harvests, such as the potato harvest in Maine and the berry harvests in the Northwest.
