[Presidential Daily Diary] 1/19/1991
Operation Desert Storm, also known at the Gulf War, began on January 17, 1991. No daily diary entries were recorded for January 17 or January 18, 1991. On January 19, President Bush's schedule had changed considerably from earlier in the week. At Camp David for the weekend, he nevertheless talked with his National Security Advisor General Brent Scowcroft regularly during the night. In the early hours of the morning, he also spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir as well as with Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, and Secretary of Defense Richard Cheney. The President's schedule throughout the day was absorbed with the hostilities in the Persian Gulf. He hosted a working lunch with his national security and defense advisors and spoke again with the Prime Minister of Israel later in the day.
